Video Demonstration: Tricks for loosening up tight jar lids

Posted on February 11th, 2007 in General by daya

If you’ve ever experienced unwanted Jar Closure, then you’ll appreciate the quite perky Rachel Ray’s tips for opening up a can of whatever.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - who doesn’t know how to open up an over-tightened jar, huh? However, I did learn something kinda useful here: the Rubber Band method. Personally, I always run a stubborn lid under hot water; seems to work for me. Any other tips for this common household problem? Thoughts in the comments.

Windows/Mac/Unix (Firefox): Add search functionality to your browser for any site with OpenSearchFox, a Firefox extension that will add search for any site with a search box.

We’ve blogged about how to do this yourself, but if you’d rather not mess with the inner workings of Firefox, then OpenSearchFox is a good option; especially if there’s a site (or two, or three) that you search consistently. OpenSearchFox is a free Firefox extension, and works wherever Firefox does.

Google Maps have quietly added subway stations and prominent buildings to maps of New York City, as well as common nicknames for various streets.

This is obviously a very helpful feature; hopefully, they’ll roll this out for the rest of the Google Maps cities very soon. Meanwhile, you can check out the NYC subway station smells.
